Hospital Based Rotavirus Gastroenteritis Surveillance in Pakistan:

            This 2 year study was undertaken in collaboration with Aga Khan University and Federal EPIcell. The

            objective was to estimate the disease burden due to rotavirus in children under 5 years of age, who were

            hospitalized due to severe diarrhea. Five hospitals, 2 in Karachi, and one each in Rawalpindi, Lahore

            and Peshawar have participated in the study.

            The 2 years study has been completed. The results show a high prevalence of rota virus gastroenteritis in

            25% of children under 5 years of age.
