National Health Research Complex was established in 1986 as a development project for a period of 3 years i.e. 1985-86, 1986-87, 1987-88. Thereafter the project was converted to the non-development.

Specialized fields of research work

NHRC was designated as WHO collaborating centre for Health System Research for the whole Eastern Mediterranean Region. NHRC was running a project very much vital for health planning, National Health Survey of Pakistan (NHSP), which had financial and technical assistance by National Centre for Health Statistics (NCHS), United States of America. It was here that the idea was conceived and blossomed by initiating pilot studies. Lahore, being the largest Center looked after half of the total PSUs of the country (40 Punjab PSUs) besides being the center for sero-epidemiological studies. NHRC had greatly contributed in the operation of NHSP, in three different ways; Field, Laboratory and Statistical work.
