Health Information Resources Centre (HIRC)

The HIRC will have the following functions:

• To track, collate, store and make available health related information generated within Pakistan.

• To make available health and related information generated regionally and globally.

• To make available the information in a form that can be used for policy and decision-making.

It is aimed that PMRC would coordinate data collection activities (generated within Pakistan), organization, storage, retrieval and dissemination of health information / resources in electronic formats through its dedicated portal, the website, which is being developed and accessible under the URL: www.pmrc.org.pk with the following features characterized to be put on line:

• Electronic version of the Directory of Health Research Pakistan

• Full text electronic access articles of (PMDC recognized) Pakistani Biomedical Journals

• Health Research Activities in Pakistan

• Linkages with HIRC and other medical libraries within Pakistan & abroad

• Linkages with Major national health studies, databases, electronic and digital resources

• Linkages with international databases, core international biomedical journals, publications, etc.

Vital to this site is to provide access to bibliographic citations of journal articles under the standard medical subjects headings (MeSH) and each citation to be linked with its full text article published in Pakistani biomedical journal (s).

The library software has been installed at the PMRC Head Office, Islamabad and personnel are being trained to enter the data.
