Establishment of National Antimicrobial Resistance Containment Programme:

Increasing antimicrobial resistance is a global concern. In Pakistan, the rising trend of antimicrobial resistance has been documented in a number of local and international publications. PMRC in collaboration with Aga Khan University and CDC USA is establishing a network in the country to rationalize the use of antimicrobial agents.  Number of sentinel sites have been selected to collect laboratory based data on antimicrobial resistance against common pathogens. The information collected will help in formulizing future antibiotic policy for its rational use within the country.

Recently, the Council has called the meeting of national expert and developed recommendations to establish a “National antimicrobial resistance containment programme”. The task force and advisory group has been identified and Gazette notified by Ministry of Health dated 31-10-2007.

The last meetiong of Task Force was held in April 2008; further information may be sought at www.parn.org.pk
